ORVIS CLEARWATER LARGE ARBOR II FLY REEL : 4-6WT
The Orvis Clearwater Fly Reels, New for 2019, may be the best bargain value on the market in this price range. Featuring a powerful, smooth drag system and a new, stronger and lighter frame, the new Orvis Clearwater is tough and attractive, in a lightweigth reel to perfectly balance modern fly rods. Two years in design and development delivers with a powerful inline, Rulon to stainless, stacked disc drag that can hold its own with high-performance machined reels. The New Orvis Clearwater Fly Reel has the great classic look of a fully machined reel, and more importantly, has the guts of a much higher-priced fly reel.
Easily converted to either left- or right-hand retrieve, the Orvis Clearwater II Fly Reel has a positive click drag knob for consistent settings every time. Whether you're looking for your first large arbor, fishing on a budget, or want a spare reel or two in the bag, the new Orvis Clearwater Large Arbor II Fly Reel can handle anything a machined reel can and completely changes the game in die cast reels. This reel absolutely blew me away. I have some very expensive and nice fly fishing tackle and my wife and I were just purchasing a less expensive reel for a nymph rod. We didn’t have super high expectations of this just due to the price. Man was I wrong. This reel is butter smooth and the fit and finish are amazing for the money and even at twice as much. The only thing I could knock this reel for at all is the drag knob is a little stiff but that’s not the end of the world. I would highly recommend this to just about any one. Very happy with our purchase.

Orvis Clearwater offers the durability, smooth operation and ease of use found in reels sold at twice the price. The spool and frame fit together tightly and truly, allowing the angler to cast and handle fly line most efficiently, The drag is strong and smooth, with the low start-up inertia needed to control strong fish on the smallest hooks and lightest tippets. Reels II and IV are equally excellent.

Sure a fly reel can be just a line holder - that is until you hook into a striper, summer largemouth - or even better a smallie -- then drag and reel ability is important. That's where this reel exceeds - for the budget-minded - Would a mortgage-payment level reel perform better? Sure, maybe, it'd better - but for those of us who don't want to choose between eating this month and a shiny slick fly reel - the Clearwater works wonders.
