Instead of buyoing multiple setups, I buy 2-3 spare spools for each reel and different applications. The Disc III is a great reel and it is very handy to have an extra spool or two for your favorite reel.

I like to switch from floating lines to sinking lines and extra spools make that much easier when out on the water. For the money, you can't beat having extra Battenkill spools for swapping out lines fast.

I love these reels and spools. Most of the fishing I do is for trout. And although I do catch some larger trout, I don't need a $300 reel or $150 spool to land a 17" fish. (I don't need a disc drag, either, but...) The price of the spools for these reels is a BIG selling point at only $70. I can afford several!

The battenkill disc III isn't that much different than the II, so I put that size on my 4wt (matches nicely) and used this spare spool for my 6wt. Excellent Orvis quality and CNC machining at an affordable price.
