    REDINGTON BUTTER STICK 476-3 FLY ROD : 4WT, 7'6"

The Redington Butter Stick 476-3 is such a sweet and smooth casting rod, that it lives up to it‰۪s super cool name, and it casts like, well‰۟...butter. This 476-3 is a versatile small stream rod that will make the most delicate dry fly presentations, yet has the power to toss larger flies and cast longer distances. The modern, high modulus fiberglass telegraphs every head shake when that rainbow smashes your fly!

The new Butter Stick does just that. Built using T-Glass construction on our Heritage Taper, the Butter Stick is a slow action glass rod that will delicately present a fly even in the tightest of places. The retro cosmetics and slower action will make every day feel like throwback Thursday.

Redington is well known for producing high quality, performance fly rods that feel and fish like high-end rods costing hundreds of dollars more, at value prices that are accessible to any angler. I paired this rod with my Redington Drift I had that was in use with my old Cabelas CGR 4wt 6foot 6 inch. I handed down the CGR to my son so I replaced it with this Butterstick. I received it yesterday and test drove it today. The winds were 8+mph. I was shocked at how easy a good forward cast would produce 40+ feet. A lot of pro reviews said how overly slow this rod is. I disagree. The CGR rod is much softer/slower. It is on the slower end in relation to most of todays products but it is such a pleasure to cast. With the right fly it is the best roll casting rod I ever had. (no so much with small poppers or weighted flys). The fit and finish are superb and this is IMO one of the niceset looking rods out there. Mork would approve! (80's reference}. I now want the 6 weight to use on deeper Crappie and perch with a type 1 or 2 sink tip while on the kayak.

I have the 4 wt and the 5wt and both are a lot of fun. The 4wt is an excellent small stream rod. Capable of small streamers, hopper droppers, and delicate enough to make light presentations. I don't think there'd be much to be gained by going lower than the 4wt.... I use a true 4wt double taper line and it's a great combo.
