This is a solid fly line, perfectly adequate to most trout situations that call for a floating line. I've bought these before and will buy again!

The tapered line on this was the deciding factor for me. The roll is perfect with this line. Don’t worry about bad casts with this line. Good for all flies. 8wt is the heavy but not too heavy

A Very Good Line for Lots of Rods

RIO markets this line as a do-it-all line, and I think that's pretty accurate. I've fished it extensively in the 3-weight, 5-weight, and 7-weight configurations. I really like the taper of this line. The head is longer than usual, 45-49 between the 3-weight and 7-weight versions. That means that it can hold a lot of line in the air without your loop collapsing. It's an easy casting line, but I have two issues with it: (1) It's a little heavier than the AFFTA standards, 30% more than the standard line weight. On moderate action rods (which I really prefer), it tends to dampen the rod action just a bit. For that reason I think it's best on medium-fast rods. For a medium rod, I'd fish a true-to-weight line, and for fast rods, I'd fish a line 50% heavy line (like the RIO Perception or Scientific Anglers MPX). I still use it on my medium-fast 7-weight, and I really like it on that rod. (2) Like all the RIO lines I've fished, I find that the line and its coating tends to wear out more quickly than I expect. I've been fishing Scientific Anglers lines for the last three or so years for that reason, and I find that they last longer. It's still a really good line, but I have to replace it more often than I'd like.
