Navigating strong currents and slippery rock river beds is part of the experience. Simms' Freestone Boot has a proven record of durability and traction in rocky rivers around the world. It provides the support underfoot and at the ankle for negotiating slick, unseen river bottoms. The synthetic uppers take the abuse of brush, rock and water in stride, while a cushioned midsole and partial neoprene lining provide all-day cushioning and warmth.
The Freestone Boot has been in the Simms boot lineup for 10+ years. Certainly redesigned over this time, this newest version incorporates a more forgiving synthetic leather, but also the comfort boot footbed. A great boot for any angler on the water, or great as a backup pair for trips.
Great boots that offer sturdy construction and plenty of grip. No hassles making my way up any river in these, or climbing out grass embankments. A great buy.

I read a lot of reviews about these before buying. A lot of them said how clunky and heavy they are. My experience has been the opposite. They are only 1oz heavier than my patagonia ultralight boots and drain far better, making them lighter overall. I have not experienced the “ski boot” feel like I have in other boots. They feel broken in already. I wear a size 11.5/12 and got the 13 and they fit great.

I bought a pair of these boots for wading rivers in Colorado and Montana. A friend told me about them first after he heard me complain about the price of re-soling my SIMMS G3 boots. Between the repair and the shipment I was close to buying a brand new pair of boots. I tested these boots with Hardbite Studs installed on the Madison and Ruby rivers in Montana in 2018 and was entirely satisfied with them. I bought another pair for future trips when ReelFlyRod had a sale on them.
