I bought this reel for smallmouth fishing and wasn’t sure when I first picked it up. Great reel, solid drag, one of my favorites now!

This reel is extreemly rugged and functional. The BVK SD II is perfectly balanced with TFO's Axiom 2, and I have used this setup for bass and trout. The sealed drag will also you to use this reel in a variety of environments without fear of the reel failing or seizing up. The method of releasing spool from the rest of the real is very robust and will not fail in extreme environments or with repeated use. The drag has a wide range that is accessed within three turns of the knob. Overall, if you keep this reel cleaned, it can handle just about anything you throw at it.

This tfo reel will not disappoint very smooth and well made. The cost to value is excellent. I’ve had it out for trout 11 times and in the salt 4 times for the small blue fish run (2lbs -3lbs). I’m running it on a 6wt tfo Clouser for salt. So far I’m very impressed with the sealed drag. After each saltwater use I’ve taken it apart to clean and inspect only to find that I could have just rinsed it off and been ready for the next go. I would highly recommend.
