    2019 ORVIS CLEARWATER 865-4 FLY ROD : 8’6” 5WT

The Orvis Clearwater 865-4 Fly Rod offers the iconic length and weight that many anglers consider to be the perfect trout fly rod. It offers a versatile length that's at home on large or small water, a line weight that allows for the enjoyment of small trout and yet can handle large trout and light bass with ease. Whether you're looking for versatility, a daily driver that hangs rigged and ready on the wall, or the one and only fly rod you own, the Clearwater 865-4 fills the wallet-friendly bill.

The new Clearwater Rod Series is not just a cosmetic facelift, but a complete overhaul from the ground up by our Vermont rod designers. Everything has changed except the value. It's still the best fly rod you can buy for the money, but with a significant upgrade in performance and looks in a comprehensive series that covers every angler from small stream addicts to Skagit slinging two-handers. Each rod was designed with a purpose-built profile and action to handle the kind of fishing the rod model would be traditionally used for, from medium-action small stream rods to medium-fast freshwater rods and fast-action big game rods.

Purchased as a backup rod. I ended up using it in high winds while dry fly fishing. Very impressed with its ability to cut through the wind and deliver midges.

I got this rod 2-3 weeks ago, and I’m impressed for entry level rod, and low price point, you actually getting really nice quality fly rod! Medium-fast action makes cast great on distance and accuracy, but it’s little heavier so all day casting can be tiring little. Overall I gave this rod 5 stars

Let me preface, I have purchased two of these rods. No mishandling or fault in durability - my girlfriend stole my first one. This is a perfect entry level rod, before deciding say, how much action your prefer or length. The action is preferable for me at a tad faster than medium IMO. Even though there is pliability in getting the hang of this rod, it should also prove satisfying to experienced fly fishers that need another steed to their stable. The 5wt is wishful in the small streams, brooks by where I live but I don't think the extra grams weigh down my experience. In saying that, I could recommend the 8'6" - 9' for novice or smaller stream/rock casting. I know this outfit will continue to provide me a lot of pleasure.
