Every Abel fly reel is a one-of-a-kind design, anodized individually by hand in our Camarillo, CA anodize workshop using our proprietary artistic technology. These reels are breathtaking, with each custom reel painstakingly hand painted prior to being anodized. Every Abel® product is a one-of-a-kind design, anodized individually by hand in our Camarillo, CA anodize workshop using our proprietary artistic metallurgical process. Graphics take anywhere from 2 to 14 hours for a single technician to complete. All of our products come standard in a high gloss black finish.

Abel now offers 16 anodized colors in either a hand polished high gloss, or a textured satin finish that give you a total of 32 options to choose from in 2019. Abel is the only company in the fly fishing industry that offers hand painted, and hand anodized products. The proprietary process we developed takes an incredible amount of time to accomplish, and requires even more patience from our team of factory artists to create. Each hand painted finish in our Tier 1 category requires a minimum of 4 hours to complete, and can certainly be considered a one-of-a-kind heirloom reel.

The detailed studies we conducted in our art department have proven that some of the graphics we hand-paint take much longer than others to complete. The complex designs in our Tier 2 category require at least 7 hours of our hand painting, and artistic anodizing process resulting in an iconic product available only through Abel Reels.

Artist Signature Finishes
We’re honored to feature, and replicate the work of a few of the most talented artists in the fly fishing industry. Derek DeYoung, Andrea Larko, and Jon Osiris are also each great ambassadors for our sport, and we’re proud to have teamed up with them to provide select examples of their beautiful artwork on Abel Reels. The Artist/Signature Series now additionally features original artwork by the Abel team and collaborations of unique graphics with top companies that require a minimum of 11 hours of artistic anodizing time per reel.
