The drag and feel of this reel is like a Swiss watch. It has a really satisfying pur and smoothness to it. The counterweights are great and make this a superb euro nymph fishing reel. Sage was first to come out with counter weights, ever since other companies have followed.

Boy do I love this reel. Paired with a 3wt 10' Sage ESN rod, it's a bit unnecessary, however. That rod is very light, especially at the tip. Didn't need any of the weights to balance my rod. But it looks great and the perforce is top notch.

Been reading reviews on this reel for euro nymph rods and tight lining. I finally bit the bullet and decided to spend the money and purchase this reel for my 10' 6'' helios 3 wt. It matches perfect for this rod. Also with the adjustable weights I was able to balance out the rod perfectly with this reel. The Sage ESN was designed as a perfect reel for euro nymphing/high sticking. I am glad I spent the money to invest in this well designed piece of machinery.

I've used the ESN most of this season and it has solved the annoying problem of thin mono line getting caught between the spool and frame. I have been able to use running line down to 6lb without issue. Drag is smooth and easy to adjust. I have used it on both 10', 3wt and 10'-9", 3wt without adding or changing the weight as I don't find I need it. The one issue I have had is drag clicker has failed but it hasn't affected the operation and I prefer a silent reel anyway.

I have been fishing a mono rig and using an old regular size arbor reel and have been annoyed by all of the coiling of the mono. Bought this reel to lessen the coiling. Fished with it for 3 days and coiling was much improved. I really like the adjustable weights and how you can even rotate them clockwise or counterclockwise to further fine tune the balance of the rod. The drag is excellent. Very happy with the purchase.
