My first rod and reel, and I have only practiced casting with it. But all the reviews said that 2020 Clearwater fly rod and reel is the best buy for the price. Feels solid, looks nice and fun to practice casting so I have no complaints. Rod case is also solid for traveling. Friend bought a Sage Foundation rod and reel for twice the money and for my level, there is no difference.

I have been doing some lake bass fishing for a while with a super cheap entry fly rod. Wanting get into the sport more I was looking for a more mid-tier rod that I can use on trout streams. Reviews I read pointed to the Clearwater which was then confirmed by a very experienced fly fishing friend. I am very happy so far and glad I did the combo over just the rod. The old Cortland reel I have sounds like a I'm winding a music box. Orvis reel is much smoother and quieter. Huge improvement in casting accuracy! REELFLYROD ordering was great. Prompt and good communications.

I am brand new into the fly fishing game and have been out twice so far. I really love this rod/reel combo. I feel like this set will last me quite some time before potentially outgrowing it. I am completely happy with my purchase and have zero regrets about it.

When faced with purchases, my Grandpa always told me a good phrase to live by is "cry once or cry twice", meaning: you either spend a little more than you'd want the first time to save yourself from buying the cheapy first and coming back and having to pay for that pricier one. I know this is seen as an entry-level setup, but for my budget it was jumping in with both feet. I don't regret it. Though I don't have anything to compare it to, my friends who have cheaper setups noted how nice this is. I feel like I'm already getting the hang of casting. The product feels good quality. If you have the budget and can do it, do it.

This rod has been great so far. Not super fast action, but it allows me to concentrate on my casting since I'm a beginner. The only thing I would say is that they seem pretty fragile as they are not made in the USA. My guide snapped his by tugging on the leader gently to get some more line out. I don't use mine every day, so hopefully it lasts me a long time. There is also the Orvis warranty that will replace the broken parts for a minimal fee.
