I use the Redington Crosswater 7/8/9 for beach / bay fishing in California. For the money it is hard to beat, it is just a solid reel. It isn't an expensive machined reel, so I don't worry about being super careful with it while fishing like my more expensive reels.
It balances my 7wt and my sinking line perfectly, the balance point is right in the top 1/3 of my cork grip.
You can get extra spools for $25. For under $100 you can have a reel and two spare spools.
Just be sure to rinse it off after every saltwater trip, and this reel will keep ticking.
Great service and shipping speed from ReelFlyRod as well!

I purchased this reel as a secondary reel for use on my Redington saltwater rod and loaded it out with sinking line. Having two reels, one floating and one sinking, makes it easier to change tactics depending on the conditions. The Crosswater is a solid and dependable reel that stands up to abuse. As that I do 90% of my fly casting from the beach, sand is a big problem but a quick rinse and this reel keeps on ticking. I highly recommend it for saltwater fly casters looking for a budget-friendly reel.
