ROSS REELS EVOLUTION LTX 4/5 FLY REEL : 4-5WT
The Ross Evolution LTX is the next generation in premium, high-end trout reels. The award-winning Evolution LTX is an engineering marvel, with a drag system 4x as strong as its predecessor, in a beautifully crafted, lightweight package to perfectly balance fly rods weighing mere ounces.
The new, ultra-smooth drag system retains the sound and feel that made the Evolution an icon, but now incorporates a stacked disc drag system based on the Evolution R saltwater reels, resulting in a powerhouse drag system that would be overkill if it wasn’t so lightweight. This allows it to perform not only as a perfect trout reel, but also has the power to take on saltwater game fish like Redfish, Bonefish, and Snook.
The Evolution LTX drag system is built on an oil-impregnated bronze brushing, rotating on a stainless steel spindle post. Ross Evolution LTX reels are CNC machined to exacting tolerances in Montrose, CO from proprietary aircraft grade T-6061 barstock aluminum. These gorgeous reels are then hard anodized for the perfect balance of durability and color. The large arbor spool includes an innovative line channel for cleanly hiding arbor knots when winding on backing. The Ross Reels signature bell-shaped arbor design also adds strength, while helping to self-level the fly line across the face of the spool as it is retrieved.
The LTX also incorporates a handle machined from canvas phenolic rod, another Ross Reels innovation, which reduces weight, adds durability, and increases grip when wet. The meticulously designed features of the LTX converge in a light weight package, redefining the trout reel for another generation.

I got the LTX in the 4/5 size to balance my Winston Pure 8ft 4wt. It is the perfect combo. The weight is perfect to balance out an 8 ft rod. I think the quality is very good. Although light, it is very sturdy as well. The drag is great because you can crank down to apply pressure, but at the same time, when handling very light tippet (i.e. 6x with a small dry) on the 8ft 4wt, I feel the drag can be loosened enough to safely fight a fish on light tippet.

Just purchased a 4/5 version. A stunning looking and well made reel ! The price is well suited to the quality of this item. REELFLYROD deserves 5 stars as well. Packing and shipping was GREAT !

I almost exclusively use Ross Reels. I have a Lamson and Orvis, and Pflueger, and a few one-offs, but Ross is the best reel maker in America, in my Opinion. The micarta is a phenomenal touch, the sound on the LTX is a joy to listen to, and the retrieve and drag are excellent.

I have a Ross LTX5/6 on my Asquith and liked the reel so much I purchased the 4/5 for my Scott GS884. Great reel, smooth drag no start up inertia and sounds awesome when it's screaming!

Absolutely love the reel. I purchased the 4/5 weight and love it. Super light with a great drag and looks great. Had a hard time spending the money being a college student but it was well worth it.

I paired this reel in 4/5 with the Sage Sonic 590 rod. It's perfectly balanced. The drag is super smooth. Unfortunately I managed to scratch the reel on my first outing (didn't drop it; must have rubbed against something I was wearing) so not sure how durable the black finish is.
I opted to have the reel loaded with backing and fly line but had to unspool a significant amount of backing because the line was rubbing against the spool.

I own several of these reels and feel the 4/5 in platinum is the right size and weight for most 4 or 5 weight rods. I put this reel my my 4W Zephrus and it feels just right.

I own 5 different reels and this is by far my favorite. I use it to fish for steelhead in Erie and the drag system is great for bringing in big fish. I also love the way this thing looks and sounds. Was between the LTX and new Animas but went for the LTX. Haven't had any issues it.
