    G LOOMIS ASQUITH 5WT, 9’0” FLY ROD : ASQ 590-4

The G Loomis Asquith 590-4 Fly Rod is without a doubt, different than any other high-end rod you have ever cast. This is truly the lightest, most technologically advanced fly rod on the market. The Asquith is the ultimate balance between power and feel, and fishes as well in close as it does at long distances. Asquith fly rod blanks are rolled on a one of a kind Spiral X platform that exists only in Japan. No one else has the ability to produce a rod blank like the Asquith. Each rod blank is then hand-crafted with G Loomis expertise right here in the U.S. This new Spiral X technology adds incredible stability to the rod, giving it unmatched strength and accuracy, while reducing wall diameter and weight by a whopping 15%, resulting in an incredible light-in-the-hand feel. This strength and stability significantly reduces ovalization of the rod hoop under stress, which translates to pinpoint accuracy, pure energy transfer, and increased sensitivity. G Loomis Asquith fly rods are now the most accurate rods ever built, and the Spiral X technology transfers unprecedented energy to your fly line, while telegraphing every head shake all the way to your shoulder. Simply put, Asquith generates higher line speeds, which is the accessible power you don't need to dig deep for. It is right there at your fingertips. You can load the rod in close and with minimal back casts, power it up for the hero shot. Like we said, this rod is different.

This Asquith 590-4 is a fast action fly rod that can generate a lot of power, so it is great in situations where fast line speeds and accuracy are a necessity. This also means that it excels in windy conditions or when long casts are required. The Asquith 5wt is an extremely smooth, fast-action rod, perfect as an all-purpose trout rod in medium to larger size rivers. The Asquith 5wt will make flawless dry fly presentations in close and at long distances, nymphs extremely well, and has the power to launch small streamers straight to that cut in the bank. If you are the type of angler that prefers only the best of the best, the G Loomis Asquith was made specifically for you.

The Spiral X design is a breakthrough in fly rod design that allows for added strength, while keeping the overall swing weight very low. The Asquith is probably the lightest fly rod we have ever had in our hands and the actual swing weight is amazingly light as well. The way that the graphite is rolled makes the blank stable and inline when flexing from all different angles. Pinpoint accuracy is not an exaggerated cliché. The Asquith series is the culmination of global cooperation in design, materials, and manufacturing techniques. Built on the proprietary G Loomis Spiral X platform, the Asquith boasts superb power transfer from tip to hand, lightning quick recovery, and increased sensitivity. Designed by world casting champion Steve Rajeff, the Asquith is an exploratory step into the future of rod manufacturing technology. With fast actions, generous power levels, titanium guides, and exceptionally light swing weight, all rods in the series excel in fishing situations where developing high line speed and making precise casts equates to success.

This is absolutely the finest rod I've casted. This should sort of be expected given the price tag. The rod does a few things particularly well; It dampens noticeably better than any other rod on the market. When you stop the rod to send your line forward, there is almost no wiggle left in the rod tip which seems to almost defy physics. This does actually make a difference especially in longer casts, as it allows you to throw tighter loops without the waves propagating in your fly line that might cause a tangle. This rod also casts very effortlessly and accurately at all distances; it took a little getting used to, but it seems to cast better when you put a little less effort into your cast - you don't want to "force" it. Comparing this rod to something like the NRX+, both will cast accurately at all distances, and will cast as far as you'd ever need to in trout fishing, but the Asquith doesn't sacrifice feel at close distances like other fast action rods. I paired this rod with SA Amplitude MPX on ReelFlyRods suggestion, and I recommend this pairing. It's incredible how well this setup turns long leaders at short distances. As for the finish, components etc. they are all extremely high quality, but this is to be expected on any rod in this price range. Also, as to whether it is worth 1100$. I think this depends on the individual. If you try to buy a fly rod for <100-150$, you will eventually I feel be disappointed in your purchase when you try someone elses rod. If you spend 200-500$, you will get a very nice rod, and when you begin to spend more than that you really are hitting diminishing returns in terms of how much better performance you can get. You begin to spend a lot more for a little more performance. So I was skeptical that there might be a meaningful difference between say an 800$ rod and an 1100$ rod. After trying this rod, I am no longer skeptical. It really is an amazing rod, and it really is noticeably better than any other rod I've casted. Whether that justifies a price tag over 1000$ is a personal decision, but I can tell you that in my experience if you spring for the nicer rod, it will last you a lifetime and you generally won't regret it. The only regrets I've had were when I decided to budget build an outfit and later wished I had just gone with the better outfit.

Asquith is truly a fine rod! Light delicate casts close in to long range hero shots, it does it well. Tight and accurate loops, light and responsive in the hand. Tracks straight and true from any casting position. If you can get past the price you won't be disappointed in the performance.

This is an extremely light and precise casting rod! Spiral X technology is not just a marketing ploy. It does everything it claims and in my option is a true game changer. Short to long presentations it does with precision and ease. Rod components are top notch, fit and finish are excellent. Casts as good as it looks. I have several top end rods and this one is by far my favorite. If you can get by the price tag you won't be disappointed.

My wife and I both fish these rods. They really do live up to the price tag. They cast extremely well, the build quality is what you’d expect and Loomis had always stood behind there products when I needed them to. This is not a beginners rod as it’s pretty fast but once you get used to it it casts like a dream. I would highly recommend this
