2019 ORVIS CLEARWATER 763-4 FLY ROD : 7’6” 3WT
The New 2019 Orvis Clearwater 3-Weight 7'6" Fly Rod is an exceptional small stream rod that provides the delicacy and precision of a higher priced premium rod. When high mountain streams or spring creeks call, the medium action Clearwater 763-4 answers with all the performance, casting pleasure, and feel you would expect from an Orvis designed rod.
The new Clearwater Rod Series is not just a cosmetic facelift, but a complete overhaul from the ground up by our Vermont rod designers. Everything has changed except the value. It's still the best fly rod you can buy for the money, but with a significant upgrade in performance and looks in a comprehensive series that covers every angler from small stream addicts to Skagit slinging two-handers. Each rod was designed with a purpose-built profile and action to handle the kind of fishing the rod model would be traditionally used for, from medium-action small stream rods to medium-fast freshwater rods and fast-action big game rods.

I can't believe this rod is under $200. I own a 5wt Clearwater and love the performance so much I bought a 3wt for small streams. Great action and dry fly presentation.

This is a great inexpensive rod for dries. I don't like how it is advertised for beginners. It works great for anyone who wants to toss bugs.

In 1975 or 1976, I purchased my first fly rod and reel. I seem to remember that is was a Shakespeare rod with a Pflueger Medalist 1492 reel. About a year later, I purchased an Orvis Battenkill reel and I decided I also needed a new rod. Since I couldn't afford to buy an Orvis rod at the time, I chose to buy Orvis Rod Blanks and build my own rod. Over the years, I became very good at building rods and built many more Orvis rods from blanks and matched them with the perfect Battenkill Reels. Several years ago I gave all of my fly fishing gear (and my fly tying gear) to my son who was moving to Colorado... A few months ago, I decided to get back into fly fishing. This time, for the first time, I bought an Orvis Rod... I got the 7'-6" Clearwater 3 weight because my favorite rod from years ago was a 3 weight that I had built. I could not be happier with the rod's performance and the quality is superior... My rod building days are behind me, but I will be purchasing more Orvis rods in the future...

This was my first rod a few years ago for small trout streams and it worked perfect especially for the small alpine streams in the Sierra Nevadas. I use it mostly for a dry dropper rig but have casted out a streamer for more distance and worked well enough for me. Highly recommend as a starter. Also Orvis provides a great warranty program for replacement rods.

I have the 2018 version of the Clearwater in a 5wt. The 2019 model appears to be a cosmetic upgrade black color scheme instead of green. The performance feels the same. This is made in China but will make a great starter rod. Orvis gives this rod a great warranty and replacement program just like the high end rods.
