    NEW! ORVIS RECON 905-4 FLY ROD : 5WT, 9'0"

The New Orvis Recon 905-4 fly rod is completely redesigned for 2020! If ever there was a standard for all-around performance on larger streams, rivers, and lakes for multiple species of fish, it's the Recon 5-Weight 9'. This rod can handle big trout, bass, and panfish from coast to coast. This length/weight rod is the number one selling configuration. Its length and mid-range line weight give it great versatility for dry-fly fishing, streamer fishing, perfect for a drift boat, and nymphing mid to light/heavy rigs. When you want to cover water, throw everything from an Adams to a deer-hair popper, the Recon 905-4 is an exceptional choice for all-around versatility in a mid-price fly rod with premium performance built in.

Orvis Recon fly rods are each hand crafted in the USA with a completely new ferrule design, a matte olive blank with charcoal and spring green accents, and an anodized type iii reel seat with wood insert. The New Recon uses the Helios 3 as a foundation, utilizing its construction techniques and performance attributes to refine and improve the new series. Increased hoop strength, better tracking, improved damping, and ultimately, significantly improved accuracy are now incorporated into the Recon that is also stronger, more impact resistant, and offers the mid-price buyer access to the best technology Orvis fly rods have to offer.

    FEATURES:

    • Blanks are matte olive with charcoal and spring green accent
    • Quick rod identifier on the blank
    • Pewter type III anodized aluminum reel seat with wood insert
    • Silver snake and stripping guides

I finally bought this rod after a few months of contemplation. I wish I would have bought it sooner. The technology that they used in the H3, that they brought down to this rod, makes it a real winner at $500. I would highly suggest this rod to anyone that is a serious trout fisherman.

This rod does it all. It makes the perfect all around trout rod. I even use it for bass in farm ponds. It makes every cast I need to make. Works well up close and has power to push casts out accurately.

This rod has preformed great on windy days on lakes throwing streamers or making delicate presentations on freestones. Also I think the rod and components look great. I have fly fished my whole life and so far this is my favorite rod. Very accurate. Just wish Orvis still did the aluminum rod tubes for these.

This is a very nice lightweight 5 weight rod. The balance is impeccable. The craftsmanship is beautiful. It casts very well. The countour of the distal aspect of the cork makes extended index finger casting difficult if you are someone who uses tenkara techniques with a regular rod. If you are considering between this and a Clearwater, just pay the extra money and get this. It's so much nicer.

This is a really nice universal trout rod. I have mine paired with an Orvis Hydros II reel, and it's able to make delicate casts while providing the backbone needed to turn a larger fish. The blank is an olive green, and the components are very high-quality, especially considering the price. I wouldn't hesitate to get another Recon in other weights.

First time out with this rod. Threw double nymph rigs to dries. Great all around rod. Made some super delicate casts and all were where I wanted. This rod just might make me a better caster. Highly recomended.

I don’t own this but spent a day fishing a buddies. I know a lot of people really love this rod but I found it a little stiff for my liking. I do have a preference for slower rods and just found I wasn’t getting enough feedback. I haven’t had that problem with other fast rods like the Scott radian though.
