2019 ROSS ANIMAS 5/6 FLY REEL
The new Ross Animas Fly Reel takes the time-proven features that made the original Animas a guide favorite, while incorporating machining features that bring it into the modern era of Ross. A fully-redesigned frame and spool are highlights of the new Animas. The spool shows off the cutting-edge manufacturing techniques Ross Reels has developed, delivering a design that is incredibly strong and visually stunning. You will not find a more beautiful, powerful, durable, or functional fly reel in the sub $300 price range.
The Animas also joins the family by incorporating an ultra-light canvas phenolic handle which gets tackier when wet. A new trouble-free spool release yields zero-maintenance performance, allowing the Animas to be ready for any fresh or saltwater excursion. The frame is accented by a machined silhouette of the Colorado mountains in Ross Reels’ backyard. Its uniquely ported design and structural profile are eye-catching industry firsts. The two-tone drag knob sports an updated aesthetic with a lower profile and increased grip. An improved composite drag system delivers more power in an established Ross design loved by more than 80,000 fly anglers the world over.

I have this reel in platinum and I really like the look - especially from the handle side. I like the sound of the drag better than the LTX/R, but when taken apart, there is what looks to be a bit of plastic. I like that the diameter of the spool on the 5/6 is smaller than on the LTX/R of the same size.

Recently acquired an Animas 5/6 (Matte Black) to pair with my Helios 3F. While I haven't had the opportunity to put it through true trial by fire at this point, I have to say it checks all the boxes when it comes to first impressions. It is extremely light, looks great, has a smooth easy to adjust drag and makes a great sound! Can't wait to take it out west next summer. This reel deserves more than the local panfish here in Louisiana.

Extremely lightweight, and the drag is very effective for catching 25+" trout on 5x or 6x tippet. It's also very quiet on both the retrieve and drag.

What a great reel, just paired it with my 5wt Radian and this bad boy looks “smart” and even catches fish. Played a 23” Cutthroat for 10 minutes magically this past weekend. I have a few Ross reels and this one did not disappoint- and the price is right.

I purchased the Ross Animas 5/6, and put it on a 5 weight Scott Radian. This setup has amazing balance. The reel is extremely smooth, and beautiful to look at.

I started with the 3/4 for my nymphing setup, After receiving, I upgraded some of my other gear and got the 5/6 and 7/8. There is simply not a better reel for the money
