NEW! SCIENTIFIC ANGLERS AMPLITUDE SMOOTH INFINITY FLY LINE

New for 2020: Scientific Anglers Amplitude Smooth Infinity Fly Line, Winner of the coveted Best Freshwater Fly Line Award at IFTD. The conventional wisdom in fly fishing is that there’s no such thing as a “do it all” freshwater line. Scientific Anglers has something to say about that. The Amplitude Smooth Infinity has the power to bomb out streamers, yet retains delicacy for dry flies. It mends like an absolute dream, and delivers flies at all distances. Built a half-size heavy, with a long head and substantial front taper, it’s perfect for everything from trout anyd panfish to pike and steelhead. There’s a reason we call it the Infinity: there is no end to what you’ll be able to do with it. The Amplitude Smooth series of lines are, simply put, the highest-performance smooth fly lines in the world. With up to five times less drag and eight times the durability of traditional lines, this will change the way you look at fly line performance.

    FEATURES

    • Features the revolutionary AST Plus slickness additive for superior shooting ability and increased durability
    • Extremely versatile general-purpose taper designed for most freshwater species; an excellent fly line for trout, grayling, panfish, bass, carp, steelhead, salmon, and pike
    • Made a half-size heavy to load fast-action rods, but works well with a variety of rod actions
    • Extended head length for long-distance casts and superior mending ability
    • Excellent for dry flies, nymphs, and streamers
    • Available in two color schemes: standard and camo; the camo scheme features a mottled front taper for increased stealth
    • For use in moderate and cold climates
    • Braided multifilament core

I have the 6 wt. If you are looking for a solid general purpose line you should look no further. This is a great casting line that can handle small dries to 3-4" sex dungeons.

I've been using Rio Gold on my 4, 5 and 6 weights for awhile but since trying this on my 5 I purchased for 4 and 6 weights as well. I still like the Rio and find it has a bit more finesse but this seems like it will hold up better and its smoothness helps generate line speed. Also slightly heavier than the Rio and helps to load rod just a bit faster. Highly recommend as an all around line.

I have this line on a Lamson Guru paired with an Orvis Clearwater 4wt. I was impressed both with nymphing and presenting dry flies. I will be adding this to my 5wt when the time comes to replace its line as well.

7wt makes a great light carp line

I've previously reviewed this line in 5wt as I paired it with my Orvis H3F. Recently, however, I added the 7wt to my lineup and am equally impressed. I use a 10' Echo Ion XL 7wt for a variety of purposes including inshore redfish from my kayak and carp fishing closer to home. Unfortunately, the heavier WF line I use for redfish was a detriment when carp fishing. The line slap was just too much when throwing small nymphs to large carp in <2 ft of water. Result was lots of spooked fish. Switching to Infinite Smooth, my catch rate improved significantly. I can make longer, more delicate presentations to cruising and feeding fish with limited chances of spooking the fish. My first day out, this resulted in a 28" common carp, 30+" grass carp and a pair of spotted gar (24" & 32"). Great line! Well worth the price tag!!

Bought this line for my 6wt TFO Pro II primarily for throwing small streamers and nymph rigs, so far so good.

Your recommendation of a line for mainly heavy streamer fly fishing was right on . It works great on my 10’ 7wt Sage and allows for effortless casting. Also allowed me to change to a dry when a hatch occurs. Great selection
